Now that's funny - to me, anyway.

A relative sent me this recently by email, and I enjoyed it a bit. I had to clean it up some but here - enjoy. And if you don't enjoy it, well, I'm sorry about that part. I have a weird sense of humor.
If you are 30, or older, you might think this is hilarious!

When I was a kid, adults used to bore me to tears with their tedious diatribes about how hard things were. When they were growing up; what with walking twenty-five miles to school every morning.... Uphill... Barefoot... BOTH ways. yadda, yadda, yadda

I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on my kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today. You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in Utopia! And I hate to say it, but you kids today, you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, we had to go to the library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalog!!

There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter - with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox, and it would take like a week to get there! Stamps were 10 cents!

Child Protective Services didn't care if our parents beat us. As a matter of fact, the parents of all my friends also had permission to kick our butts! Nowhere was safe!

There were no MP3's or Napsters or iTunes! If you wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio, and the DJ would usually talk over the beginning and screw it all up! There were no CD players! We had tape decks in our car. We'd play our favorite tape and "eject" it when finished, and then the tape would come undone rendering it useless. Cause, hey, that's how we rolled, Baby! Dig?

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called, they got a busy signal, that's it!

There weren't any cell phones either. If you left the house, you just didn't make a call or receive one. You actually had to be out of touch with your "friends". OH MY!!! Think of the horror... not being in touch with someone 24/7!!! And then there's TEXTING. Yeah, right. Please!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your parents, your boss, your bookie, your drug dealer, the collection agent... you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy PlayStation or Xbox video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'Asteroids'. Your screen guy was a little square! You actually had to use your imagination!!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen... Forever! And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it came to channel surfing! You had to get off your butt and walk over to the TV to change the channel!!! NO REMOTES!!! Oh, no, what's the world coming to?!?!

There was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you hear what I'm saying? We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons!

We didn't have microwaves. If we wanted to heat something up, we had to use the stove! Imagine that!

Our parents told us to stay outside and play.. all day long. Oh, no, no electronics to soothe and comfort. And if you came back inside... you were doing chores!

And car seats - oh, please! Mom threw you in the back seat and you hung on. If you were luckily, you got the "safety arm" across the chest at the last moment if she had to stop suddenly, and if your head hit the dashboard, well that was your fault for calling "shot gun" in the first place! See! That's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have no idea!! You guys probably wouldn't last five minutes if you were flashed back to 1980 or any time before!

Day 27 - humor is a must.

This made me giggle ALL day. A friend sent me this and I had to share it...

it didn't work out...

Dear "Last Week",
I just wanted to say you sortof sucked, you've had me thinking that I deserve better and I am not going to settle for that kind of drama again. (If I can help it).
First, you handed me a broke car... it had to be towed in because it wouldn't even start by using jumper cables and another car. So, it gets towed in. Then I had to borrow my dad's car, and basically spent the entire day driving or sitting IN a car. (Literally). After all was said and done, and I picked my car up the next day from the shop - it just didn't "smell" right.??!!?? Weird, I know....
So, "Last Week", I told you then that I wasn't going to take your nasty attitude, but did you listen???? NOOOOOO..... I found out that the "smell" in my car could be the rear axle or transmission - because the tow service towed my AWD vehicle in PARK. So here we go again.... I took my car back to the shop (where I work ironically) and they were kind enough to hand me the keys to a loaner car to use while they gave it a good look over.
I said out loud to you "ok, this is enough, that's the car we depend on - really??? do you enjoy all of this" and you laughed in my face on Thursday morning when I found out that not only was my husbands tag expired but we had not paid our city taxes yet (I forgot - that one is MY fault) so there I go spending nearly 300.00 that I didn't want to spend.... on my way to get the renewal sticker for the tag I was rolling up the windows in the LOANER CAR and didn't realize that little J's hand was holding the window ledge (he has NO window in MY car) and I rolled his four fingers right up for about 4 seconds. That's about how quick he screamed and then cried for several minutes to follow. Then I cried, and I yelled at you AGAIN "Mr. Last Week" to stop being such a bully to me... (yes, I know it was MY fault) His hand was fine in the end. And IF we ever have a four door car, I'll use that window lock button for sure.
Later Thursday you handed me the biggest bunch of CRAP. I thought I had my point across to you about how I deserve better, and how you couldn't beat me down anymore. I was pretty clear that I was done with your abuse and then like a true arsehole you tossed me a beatin. A rear end collision with our youngest in the car. After doctors visits, xrays, meds and pain, I have come to realize that you're not what is best for me. I'm SO over you. I'm done, we're done. I've moved on....
..... hello "weekend". Let's get to know each other well. I'm so glad you are here for me. The past is the past, and I'm moving on! I'm going to pick up MY car today with you, and I'm driving home in it - and we're going to have the best time together you and I. I love you WEEKEND!
Sincerely
~BassAckwards Mom

Mom of Boys....

I received a forwarded email yesterday, I generally don't read alot of forwards but this was was funny and I thought I'd share it. I can totally relate to #'s 3, 7, 15, & 18.

You find out interesting things when you have sons, like...
1.) A king size water bed holds enough water to fill a 2000 sq.ft. house 4 inches deep.
2.) If you spray hair spray on dust bunnies and run over them with roller blades, they can ignite.
3.) A 3-year old Boy's voice is louder than 200 adults in a crowded restaurant.
4.) If you hook a dog leash over a ceiling fan, the motor is not strong enough to rotate a 42 pound boy wearing Batman underwear and Superman cape. It is strong enough, however, if tied to a paint can,to spread paint on all four walls of a 20x20 ft. room.
5.) You should not throw baseballs up when the ceiling fan is on.When using a ceiling fan as a bat, you have to throw the ball up a few times before you get a hit. A ceiling fan can hit a baseball a long way.
6.) The glass in windows (even double-pane) doesn't stop a baseball hit by a ceiling fan.
7.) When you hear the toilet flush and the words 'uh oh', it's already too late.
8.) Brake fluid mixed with Clorox makes smoke, and lots of it.
9.) A six-year old Boy can start a fire with a flint rock even though a 36- year old man says they can only do it in the movies.
10.) Certain Lego's will pass through the digestive tract of a 4-year old Boy.
11.) Play dough and microwave should not be used in the same sentence.
12.) Super glue is forever.
13.) No matter how much Jell-O you put in a swimming pool you still can't walk on water.
14.) Pool filters do not like Jell-O.
15.) VCR's do not eject 'PB & J' sandwiches even though TV commercials show they do.
16.) Garbage bags do not make good parachutes.
17.) Marbles in gas tanks make lots of noise when driving.
18.) You probably DO NOT want to know what that odor is.
19.) Always look in the oven before you turn it on; plastic toys do not like ovens.
20.) The fire department in Austin, TX has a 5-minute response time.
21.) The spin cycle on the washing machine does not make earthworms dizzy.
22.) It will, however, make cats dizzy.
23.) Cats throw up twice their body weight when dizzy.
24.) 80% of Women will pass this on to almost all of their friends, with or without kids.
25.) 80% of Men who read this will try mixing the Clorox and brake fluid.

Happy Mother's Day!

A characteristic of the normal child is he doesn't act that way very often.

Tuesday is Random

  • My dad called me today, he's vacationing in Gatlinberg TN. He called to tell me that this morning they were visited by a very large black bear. It ripped up the hottub cover and decided to take a drink from the hottub. THEN, it came back LATER to finish ripping the cover off and proceeded to lay down in the hottub and get a bath - dad took pictures this time. My dad said this bear was a good bit taller then him and when it got out of the hottub it shook off much like a dog would after being wet, it stared at my dad and stepmom through the windows and then went away. They have 4 more days on vacation... they went to tell the property management company of the cabin they're staying in, and they told my dad that this has happened a few times already. Um, scary!!
  • My SIL/BIL are one step closer to adopting that son of theirs!!! Go read all about it HERE.
  • I had a photo for a friend to scan in, I had put it in my purse and couldn't find it!! I thought I lost it.... so I looked in my car SEVERAL (at least 6) times, in my house everywhere I'd have put it, then I went dumpster diving. Yeah, I said it - I dug thru my trash for her. She's a dear friend and I felt like total CRAP because I couldn't find the dang picture!!! Thankfully I separate my trash into recycle bins, so I had a TON of paper trash to go through. After sorting and sifting through that, I didn't find it! So, back to the drawing board.... I found it in my CAR in the dash compartment. WHY???? I never put stuff there!!! WILD. Anyway, I'm happy, she's happy - and the picture is sure to be a great WW. Check it out at http://www.momspective.com/ tomorrow.
  • I keep scissors in my purse. You just never know when you're going to need scissors... like, when your 3yo is sitting in the back seat with a string on his sock and doesn't like the 'yucky sock'... I will whip my scissors out like Mrs. Gadget and snip that string off at a stoplight.... OR for clipping coupons in the carpool line... OR for when you are at a fast food place, and you order a SMALL drink and they give you this abnormally LARGE straw? WTF is that about????? SO..... for my kids (the toddler especially) sake, to keep them from poking his eyes out, I will snip a good bit of the straw off to make it easier for him. Well, I end up with these straw bits that are about 1-2 inches long.... the other day I started thinking... it'd be really bad for me if I get pulled over and a cop see's those. They're sure to assume I have a nose candy problem with 10 or 20 of those baby's mixed in my purse and my cup holder. HA.
  • I broke my tooth and will likely end up with a root canal - and I'm scared of the dentist like I'm 2 years old. Honestly, I'd rather have full blown labor again without an epidural.... I'd rather go back into the operating room for a emergency c-section and FEEL it again. I'd rather have someone torture me by pulling my fingernails out..... do you get the picture? I'm a big sissy!!
  • My husband went back to work this week after a 3 month temp. layoff. Thank goodness, because it's not like they're handing out jobs these days for artists.
  • Last, and certainly not least.... on a very serious note. Please PLEASE PLEASE stop by Gorillabuns and show some love. Thalon was just under 4 months old and received his angel wings and left this world suddenly. His mommy, daddy and siblings need support, prayers, encouragement, and to just know that they're being thought of. Please be sure to take time to read her last 2 or 3 posts. "Slow Motion" REALLY blew me away, the raw heart she wrote with made me cry my eyes out. "time" is also a post that hit me hard emotionally. Anyway, they need the blog community to reach out... she has certainly laid her heart out there for us.... lets reach back and hug her.

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Where's my brain??

Go over to TheUnmom for more!
  • I have had about 10 hours of sleep in the past 3 days... and now, I'm paying for it with a major face breakout AND I'm getting the cold/sinus infection my son has (which is part of why I've had no sleep!!).... mommys don't get sick though, so I'm going to drink a pot of coffee to make me forget about sleep deprivation and the sore throat I have, and shoot up with Afrin to clear my nose, and I'll be good as new...

  • Our family has been in from Texas for the past week or so, and it's rained the ENTIRE time... go figure, the day they're headed back home, it is forecast to clear up and be 70!! At least they'll have a pretty day for send off and a nice trip back.

  • The tea pitcher broke and it was full... the handle just fell right off as my husband went to get it out of the fridge. Thankfully his feet weren't in the way... our floor paid the price and the faux tile has a giant gash in it now. Just another reason to replace it.... I've been wanting to extend the hardwoods from the foyer anyway - so YAY me!!

  • The downside to the tea pitcher breaking, is I've mopped that stupid floor 4 times now, and still find sticky spots.

  • Wow - something just happened and my house filled with light.... OH YEAH, that's the SUN. I forgot what it looked like - since it's been raining for 5 days straight. I could never live in Seattle.

  • I am hungry, but too tired to worry with it. So I'll drink another cup of joe.

  • Target electronic warranties rule, I got my little guy a portable DVD player 2 years ago, and bought that 19.99 3-year warranty on it... after wear and tear with a toddler for 2 years it had it, and I called, turned it in, and they sent me a giftcard for the full amount of original purchase price!! YAY!! I went today and bought another portable DVD player, this time I found one on clearance and guess what - I got home, opened up that baby and there's A BONUS DVD PLAYER!!! Two brand new ones for FREE!!! HA!!! You better bet your ars I bought another 19.99 3-year warranty on them.

  • Who ever thought of naming a medication "aciphex" had a serious sense of humor. It's a mediation for frequent reflux and heartburn... but if you're tired like me, you can't watch the commercial for ass-effects (what it sounds like) without giggling. Go HERE to watch... and yes, I need to grow up.

What the....??!!??!! Wednesday

Random Tuesday Thoughts - Totally Random

Here's my weekly contribution of random Tuesday thoughts...
  • This morning when I dressed my toddler, I put his shoes on the wrong feet, I didn't notice it at all, so he brought it to my attention by telling me his feet felt yucky.

  • My 3yo is obsessed w/ flushing the toilet.

  • I took a shower and shaved, in 8 minutes today - makeup and hair (from wet to dry to styled) done in 6 minutes. I'm not bragging, because it's pretty obvious that I didn't go all out today... I'm just glad I actually showered. HA.

  • I have a long commute to my oldest kids school, and we sit at ALOT of stoplights, and one is SUPER long... today while sitting there I noticed 3 vehicles occupied by women. Those women were doing the following: texting, putting on makeup, and picking nose. I was one of them... I was NOT picking my nose. I notice that particular stoplight, I can get a few things done.. since we have to sit through it a minimum of 3 times each time we travel.

  • I saw a recycling truck at McD's (while I was sitting at the above mentioned stoplight), the truck promoted "saving the planet by recycling" which is a great concept. I felt all warm and fuzzy inside until I saw the driver toss his PAPER BAG and PAPER DRINK CUP into the trashcan right in front of his RECYCLING TRUCK. Someone pass him his sign please.

  • What's the point in keeping the Obama/Biden and McCain/Palin signs in yards? Is this sortof like leaving your Christmas tree and deco up indefinitely? I distinctly recall the election being over.

  • I wonder if the person who does Elmo's voice ever orders at drive thrus USING Elmo's voice???

  • I need to empty and reload the dishwasher.

  • The 3yo just flushed the toilet AGAIN.

I suffer from CRS

For those who aren’t familiar with that old phrase, I’ll clean it up for this post… Can’t Remember Stuff.

Went grocery shopping today, it was my usual big shopping trip where I plan out our meals for 2 weeks and buy based on the ingredients we need for those meals, and since Jonathon is working from home temporarily (hopefully) I was excited to get to go by myself for once!! If I shop by myself it is only at night, and I prefer not to be out at the grocery store at night – when the pervs are on patrol…call me old, or paranoid, or whatever.

So, I got my pile of coupons ready, my list ready and got everything in 30 min! I shop that store often so I know the aisles well… got to the front to pay and didn’t have my debit card OR my checkbook (rarely do I write a check, but it’s good to have as backup)… so I had to leave and comeback w/ my checkbook. That’s what I get for driving my husband’s car(my checkbook is in MY car in the locked glove box!), going w/o kids (my debit card was in my regular bag that I carry with the kids) and being in “get it done” mode. That’ll teach me a thing or two.

flashback Friday

Photo was taken by yearbook staff my junior year. I look 12 in this photo and I'm totally rockin a perm.
Obviously I was a dedicated student....
Class = Geometry, and I passed with an "A" - thank you very much.....
Why was I sleeping???? Who knows, wasn't really a regular thing I did in school, so it really surprised me when they snapped this one of me.... maybe it was that I finished my test (and aced it, HA) before everyone else and I was just 'resting my eyes', had to have been the case {if you're reading this dad}. >wink wink<
Post a flashback over at Courtneys Blog!! Check out the others!!

mis-heard

I just mis-heard something... and maybe it's TMI for the reader who is easily embarassed... so - sorry if I offend...

What did I hear?
My husband was making himself a snack in the kitchen, while I'm on the couch working and listening to American Idol... and what I think I hear him say is:
Big E (oldest son - nearing puberty, who told me about his two zits today and how that's part of puberty) is concerned about penis hair.
I almost choked. I said "what? he told you that? are you serious? when did he mention that he was concerned about....."

What did he really say??? After we laughed at my mistake in hearing.... he ACTUALLY said...
Big E is concerned about PHOEBES hair..... {Phoebe is our dollface Persian cat, who is matted and needs a shave and grooming}

Wow - I REALLY got that wrong!

thanks US Mail!

To anyone of the 75 people we sent a Christmas card too.... we did NOT send it after Christmas!!!

Interestingly enough, my uncle just received his YESTERDAY!! I also received 3 back last week for address correction....

I'd love to know the post dates on the cards that arrived this week.... the ones I received back are post dated 01.09.09!! Maybe they got lost in the drop box I put them in, who knows! I sent ALL of them at the same time!

Next year I suppose I'll send them out at Thanksgiving to ensure delivery by Christmas!!

all in good fun

I don't care who you are, who you're voting for - this video is hilarious. It could have just as easily been an impersonation of Barack Obama (Will Smith would be dead on I bet) and I'd laugh just as hard. I still say I'm not going to go political on a post and make stabs back and forth about what candidate is right for this country in my opinion...... but SNL always has something up their sleeve and I laugh every time I see this !!! Tina Fey is HILARIOUS and Amy Poehler is right on too!

mud puddle bribery

We grilled out in the lightly drizzling rain tonight, and while big J was grilling little J played in our natural moat, splashing around and having a blast. After about 20 minutes and the chicken being done (see post below, I need some new ideas with chicken), we thought it would be fun to video our attempt of getting little J inside. We usually have fun and ask silly questions, he always answer's "no" and then laughs because he knows we think it's cute. Tonight we were surprised, and I'm SO glad we got it on video!! It's almost America's Funniest Videos worthy in my opinion!
Volume is needed for this one.... and just in case you can't hear big J's questions, he asked...
Do you want to go eat now?
Do you want to go get a snack?
Do you want to eat now?
Do you want a million dollars?
Do you want to kiss a girl??? (pay close attention here)

a random meme, humor me

Today was absolutely mundane, and normal, and all of what I needed. Weird, but I actually like my life structured. I enjoy the occasional frivolity... but in the end, I suppose I'm a prude. So there's nothing spectacular to blog about today, no major changes in our life. What we did in a nutshell was a few errands, a nice relaxing visit to the local library for some new reads, a much needed grocery store visit (after vacation - whew) and then back home to work. Tonight we watched Intervention after the kids were in bed, and it was quite interesting - I learned alot about 'dusters' and inhalants.

This one's for my SIL - because on the last ? she answered 'probably no-one' and I bet she knew deep down I had a burning desire to fill out a survey..... HA. I agree, blogging is self-indulgent and that's exactly why I'm doing this "meme"... a meme is a new term I've learned in reading blogs - I generally don't read blogs that do alot of them... but I will take interest in the occasional list of random facts about someone. So here's mine (I tag Jennifer on this Meme):

how it goes

So - I procrastinated.... for 1 year. A year ago I bought this nifty skylight shade for our Honda Element skylight (they don't call it a sunroof...they're weird like that) but I never had it installed. The skylight is right over the kids heads in the back seat and it gets pretty toasty back there if we're not parked in the garage. I figured now was a great time to get it installed, since we're going to be at the beach - where it's hot... right? Wrong! The part, a genuine Honda part, didn't come w/ instructions (we didn't attempt this at home); I called the dealer I work for and asked about installing it, and they said I should have received a template w/ it and if I didn't then they'd rather me take it to the Honda dealer to have it installed... they DO have to drill holes in my headliner! So, we did that - made an appt. with the local Honda dealer, a close friend of mine works there and she assured me it'd be around 45 min. They have a nifty kids room (see photos below) and we took a snack, and 2 hours later I found out that they didn't have a template!! They insisted my part should have included a template... but the box clearly says on the side "Instructions not included, see dealer for instructions or contact customer service" (it's not really a DIY type of job).... STORY OF MY LIFE! After 2 hours waiting (the kids were TERRIFIC!) we left, they were to call us when they figured out what to do (assuring - wondering about drilling holes in the headliner and roof - that can rust and leak... ha). I called American Honda myself, and they couldn't find a template to order!! HA! I just rolled my eyes, totally my luck (anyone who knows me is laughing HARD).

5pm - I get a phone call, they ordered one overnight... hopefully we'll get it installed before we leave. It's not life/death situation - I just find it absolutely insane that nothing that I 'plan' goes as 'planned.
Examples: in 2005 husband/stress test - I planned that he'd be told that they were concerned over nothing or something simple... but instead he had a heart attack during the stress test (after NO other symptoms of heart disease!).... on the flip side of planning... things that I don't plan keep happening too.... like our little miracle of Jesse - unplanned pregnancy 4 months after his triple bypass surgery (ha - cardio)... then I 'planned' a spectacular birth -HAHAHA - and after 20+ long hours of labor and a true attempt of delivery the way I wanted to do it... Jesse was born after we rushed into the O.R. for a c-section. (note - not exactly what I planned) Then there's the really mundane things that would take me days to list that happen literally daily. I've resigned myself to begin planning as if it's Bizarro Opposite World... maybe then it'll go as planned at least once in a while.
Right now - I'm planning our trip, packing, and getting ready for our first family vacation to the beach since Jesse was born. There's been alot going on that's prevented us from doing that. Until the past 2 years we'd been going every year on my birthday. We're going to do that this year! I can't wait!! I'd have to bet that I'm more excited then the kids.
Moral of todays long winded blog... procrastination will bite you in your BUTT!

irony

Today we went to the lakefront for a bit, then stopped by our favorite Chinese restaurant for some takeout...

BOTH boys got the same thing in their fortune cookies. Unbelievable - and right on the money.

What the ???

We were out and about today, and as we got in the car to leave the parking lot I literally almost pee'd myself. Not sure why I'd actually lose all logic and think that the darn thing could have actually been alive, but there's something funky about a mounted deer head sitting in the passenger seat of a car. For a split second, my logic escaped me and I gasped as if the blame thing were alive.... sitting there next to me... in a car. Have a laugh - I sure did.

The picture doesn't nearly do the moment justice.

gut roll

I just got my computer up and running, and I'm working on getting it back to where I need it to be for work, in the meantime, I saw this video on a TV show we watch and almost pee'd myself laughing. I'm guessing his dad's a preacher.... hmmm, can't remember me or my brothers ever doing this. It was worth sharing. ((especially you dad))
